Praying to God

prayer & bible study

ACTS 2:41-42 says that the early Christians “Continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine (teaching), the fellowship, the breaking of bread, and (the) prayers.”  This is the pattern for normal Christian living.  Therefore we have a prayer meeting and Bible study on Tuesday night (7:30–8:45 PM).

Did you know that the first meeting in the Bible was a prayer meeting (Acts 1:13-14)?  It was a prayer meeting where they “all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication”.  This is why we reserve the first part of the Tuesday night meeting for corporate prayer and the second part for the study of God’s word. At this time prayer is made for the needs of each member of the assembly, as well as for our families, our community, our government, and for missionaries who take the message of the Word of God to faraway lands.

II Timothy 2:15 tells Christians to "Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed; rightly dividing the word of truth" and  I Peter 2:2 says that Christians should be “as newborn babes, (who) desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow thereby.”

So it is clear that God expects Christians to study the Bible and understand it.  It is necessary for our spiritual growth, just as milk is necessary for a baby’s natural growth.  For these reasons, we hold two Bible Studies per week.  One is on Sunday morning, during Sunday School time (11:30 – 12:30), and the other one is on Tuesday nights (7:30 – 8:45 PM).

For the Bible study portion of the Tuesday meeting, a book in the Bible is chosen for the study and the chapters are studied in an orderly manner.  The Bible studies are led by a mature Christian and visitors are welcome to listen and learn with us the truths found in God’s word.
